Investment brokers and stock brokers
A stock broker is a qualified and regulated professional who buys and
sells shares and other securities through market makers on behalf of
investors. Shares and stocks have the same definition; a share is a section
of a company that a stockbroker can buy and sell if they have a suitable
amount of money. A transaction on a stock exchange must be made between two
members of the exchange, so most people will go through a broker. Not only
can brokers buy or sell stock at the investor's direction, but also advise
which shares to trade. In discretionary dealing, the stockbroker finds out
the client's investment objectives and then makes all dealing decisions.
Brokers will charge a commission on trades that they make on behalf of the
client.
An investment broker will trade different assets on behalf of clients,
including financial investments and liquid real assets. Real assets may
include property, collectibles, or precious metals. Financial investments
include shares, bonds, or other equity investment.
Tips on investing
Here are just a few tips if you are considering investing in the stock
market. All stocks purchased should be from a company that has a history of
raising their dividends every year, and the company should have been in
business at least eight years. The company should also show price
appreciation in the market place, on a year to year basis. All dividends
from the companies should be rolled-over into more shares of the company,
until retirement.
The companies purchased should have staggered dividend pay-out dates so the
income from 12 companies will provide the shareholder cash dividend income
every week of the year. A systematic approach of dollar-cost averaging
should be done on a quarterly basis. A savings plan should be adopted to add
to your holdings every quarter, along with the dividend reinvestment. Stocks
purchased should pay a dividend yield of at least 2.0% or better.
