The underground world of the hard rock miner is rarely seen by “outsiders.” Now you, too, can go “on shift” and see the earth from the inside out. A one hour guided tour takes you 1/3 mile into Galena Mountain where you follow the vein and learn how mining was done. At The Old Hundred ™ you get to see and experience actual operating mining equipment in a real mine setting.
Outside, the awesome scenery is worth the visit. Located in Cunningham Gulch just minutes from historic Silverton and easily accessible by car or RV, wildlife and natural wonders abound. Beaver and brook trout can be seen in the ponds below the mine, and elk, deer, and bear are sometimes seen. Spectacular waterfalls cascade down the cliffs from the alpine basins above you. In mid­summer wildflowers dot the slopes and in fall the hills turn “gold” with the brilliant aspen trees.

When you visit, you will be taken on an underground tour of the gold mine by our friendly, knowledgeable staff. Consolidated Gold Mine in Dahlonega was the site of America’s first gold rush. After the tour you will do some gold panning, and gem grubbing. Your gold mine tour guides are friendly and can answer any questions you have about hard rock mining and the excavation period in which approximately 4,000 tons of dirt, debris and ore were removed from the tunnel system. The guides are open to questions and welcome interaction during the 40-45 minute tour. The mines remain at a comfortable 60 degrees year round. A GREAT gold mine adventure!

Overall, the purpose of The New 49'ers is to assist our members to find increased enjoyment and more profitable yields while helping to create more and more successful gold prospectors in our field. Each year we are proving that a large number of successful gold prospectors, associated together in a responsible way, have a chance to provide greater gold prospecting opportunities for all of us to enjoy. In addition to the stamp mill, we have rod mills and jaw crushers that we occasionally use. All of these antique gold mining machines along with our open pit mine can be seen when you visit our gold mine. We sell our ore by the 5-gallon bucket. You can pan for the gold at our gold mine, or you can take the ore home with you.

The tour departs from the Yackandandah Visitor Information Centre in High St where you will travel by 4WD bus into the mountains to the historic mine site. Your tour guide will share the stories and history of many sites along the way and then deep into the amazing Karrs Reef Goldmine – which still has many original pieces of machinery and tools used during this goldmining era on display.

Visitors get a lot for their money with a Dredge tour. The tour includes a 20-minute audiovisual presentation showing Fairbanks area gold mining operations; a guided tour of the dredge; a tour of dredge supply buildings full of machinery, equipment, and mining discoveries; a bunk house tour; a "Miners' Buffet" lunch and a gift shop visit, not to mention a chance to pan for your own gold.

Wet and cold weather is no problem as the mine operates in most conditions and travel is in our new and warm, 4WD coach, specifically designed for these mine conditions. Generally scheduled tours operate 1.30pm Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturdays, but there are some variations so please check the tour schedule.

After your tour, your guide will teach you how to pan for GOLD in Eureka Creek in the summer or inside by a cozy stove in the winter. Take your riches home with you. A great Colorado souvenir. For winter fun, we offer dinner, scenic and private sleigh rides drawn by powerful Draft horses.

Blue Water Cove trips- You can rent a canoe or sit-on-top one or two passenger ocean kayak. Walk sandy beaches and discover the numerous blue water coves that are in this area. Look for desert wildlife such as burros, bighorn sheep, coyotes and birds of prey. These trips are fun for the whole family

In a newly opened tour area of the mine, visitors will stand in awe on the 1,000 foot mine level as they gaze upward into the Queen Bess Stope that extends upwards 600 feet to the Mollie Kathleen 400 foot level, as they learn the life of the "stope-rat miner".

Four Riverside cabins are available for rent, by reservation only. Two-night minimum. One night (non-refundable) deposit required. No animals and No smoking allowed in cabins. All cabins have air-conditioning and refrigerator.
